Can The US Survive Without Global Trade ?
United States is a country that is completely dependent on global trade and imports mainly for almost 80 percent of the consumer products. There are some types of commodities that are not available in the United States even as raw material. Many of the food types and other raw materials are actually not found in the United States.
From the food that people eat, to the clothes that they wear and some of the things that they use on a daily basis are not manufactured in the United States. Most of the brand names in the clothing industry are food industry imports many things from other countries.
There are several reasons as to why a country should become so dependant on global imports and here are some of those. Lack of qualified labor is a common reason for a country like United States where it has to depend on other countries for products and finished goods. Some countries have years of expertise in making or producing goods so they attract other countries in global trade. The weather conditions in the United States are very different and most of it does not suit some of the main food products to grow them and manufacture them. Some of the bulk food production cannot happen and the only way to cope with the need is to import them.
In order to survive without imports or global trade, the country and its people would demand a drastic change in lifestyle, and also forgo several things that are available year around. Therefore, it would be very difficult for the United States to survive without global trade.
