How Digital Watermarking Works ?
Digital watermarking is used to identify data that has been woven into media material like images, printed material, music files and video files. |
Digital watermarking can be used for various purposes, and protecting content which fall into the above category. When a file is protected using digital watermarking, then a unique signature is created like a code so that when the file is being used by anyone else, it can be identified. There are two kinds of digital watermarking. One is the visible digital watermarking and the other is the invisible digital watermarking.
In a visible digital watermarking format, the owner of the movie or the music file is clearly indicated on the right of the file. This can be done on photographs, images and logos also. So, people who want to download the information have to download it with complete knowledge of to whom the file belongs to. However, this type of watermarking does have its limitations to modifications.
An invisible or imperceptible watermarking does not identify the owner openly. However, the digital watermark is carried as a hidden feature in these files. They are embedded as codes in the media files. The imperceptible watermark can be made as a robust feature. However, the robustness of the watermark depends on the length of the code.
Digital watermarking is mainly used to identify the real owner of the file, and also to identify the copyrights of the file owner. There are several watermark detectors, and also watermarked objects available on the Internet.
