Punishment For Indecent Exposure
An indecent exposure is an act where a person exposes in nudity without any reason in public and in places where they cannot and also jeopardize the fellow society around them. It need not involve any physical contact, but the act of nudity is vehemently condemned by the laws that govern indecent exposure.
In the US, especially, it is considered as a sex offence. In the purview of the US law exposure means the exposing of ones genital parts. It could also mean through transparent clothing. In the case of indecent exposure any kind of exposure and even wearing obnoxious clothing which may offend everyone is condemned.
Although there is no physical contact involved in indecent exposure, it is still deemed as a sex crime in the US. And, if a person is convicted for this crime, it is quite possible that he or she may have to register with National Sex Offender Registry. Usually, this kind of act attracts a misdemeanor charge, and one of the most common charges under it is called streaking. For example, running across a sport field naked is one of the behaviors exhibited commonly.
Initially, the punishment may be a fine to the tune of $500 to $1,000 along with some misdemeanor charges on your record. However, repeated incidents of indecent exposure may lead to an arrest and prison time. The criminal implications for an indecent exposure are based on the moral code, and every person on the society has to respect the norms of it. However, indecent exposure shows poor morality of the offender. However, more than legal implications the problem with this kind of behavior, there is a lot of social stigma attached with it for the offender.
