Should Serious Violent Juvenile Offenders Be Removed From Home



The number of serious violent juvenile offenders has gone up impressively over the last ten years in the United States. Even if the prosecution rates of juvenile’s offenders is low, the overall number of juvenile crime committed will be twofold in the next twenty years according to one ominous forecast.

Serious violent juvenile offenders pose great threat to public as well as to public property. There behavior posse’s significant emotional and physical havoc for the community. Such juveniles or youth consume much of the resources of the youth service system. On personal level, anti-social youths experiences reduced educational and employment opportunities and frequently pass on similar offensive activities to their immediate descendants. Sound public policy states that serious, violent and repeated juvenile offenders should be put behind the bars to protect the public property from vandalism.

Some criminologist and social workers believes that serious violent juvenile offenders should be kept away from home. Most juvenile justice systems rely heavily on the use of restrictive out-of-home arrangement as a sanction for serious violent juvenile offenders. Juveniles and youth certainly need handled carefully in a professional way as they are not developed fully either mentally or physically and this can be done only at rehabilitation centre by trained professional. The rehabilitation centre provides educational and vocational training as well as physiological counseling’s and this can be done by keeping juvenile offenders away from society and homely environment.

The juvenile justice system mainly focuses on punishment and rehabilitation in an effort to maximize the chances of juvenile system becomes well adjusted and contributing member of our society. There are different ways by which attempts are made to reinstate serious juvenile offenders back into the society. These include institutionalization, community treatment like probation restitution.
