Prevention And Air Pollution
The effects of air pollution on humans and other living organisms cannot be emphasized enough.
It should involve a concerted effort from scientists, business leaders, researchers, educators, legislators, and individuals in order to reduce the amount of air pollution on the planet. The first step in addressing the problem of air pollution is assessment of the pollutants. Researchers and scientists have conducted extensive research on outdoor air pollution, and developed various devices and standards to measure the type and the amount of some potentially dangerous air pollutants. The next step is to determine the amount or concentration of pollutants that is harmful. Once the exposure levels have been determined, it is now necessary to determine the exposure time. Once this is done, adequate steps and measures can be taken to reduce exposure to the pollutants.
On a larger level, these can be accomplished by passing a legislation to regulate artificial sources of air pollution. As the prevailing sources of air pollution are transportation and industrial units, adequate pollution control measure needs to be taken against these sources. In the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for monitoring and controlling the environment. Many state and local organizations also assist the main federal agency in the pursuit.
Legislation, such as the Clean Air Act, ensures that the perpetrators of air pollution are properly regulated and mandatory laws are in place to ensure that air pollution prevention is taken seriously. The legislators can further help by continuously making regulations stricter, and enforcing new regulations that help to overcome any new found source of air pollution.
The educators can do their bit by educating the masses on the impacts of air pollution and initiating the individuals to take steps to prevent air pollution.
